Re: Maxxis 185/80 R13 tire out of production again?
Just got off the phone with my local tire guy.
He has 4 of the Maxxis coming Wednesday, $436 mounted and balance.
Yes, Virginia, 13" tires still do exist.
Thanks,
Mike

Thanks Ed, i'm trying to get the cardiologist to listen to me but they think they know better. Hope everything works out as I need new tires for my 28 Dodge.

We have plenty of these tires in stock, that are fresh as we buy most of the stock each time these come in to the country, usually based on our orders. so keep the orders coming and these will continue to be available.

At $140 per tire their stock will likely last a while. We purchased for under $90 per tire.

The Amazon.com North Carolina vendor was just at $100 per tire with free shipping, which makes the Coker Tire price somewhat ridiculous! Perhaps this whole debate really points to a time for a serious look at 14" or 15" rims, which opens the door to a wider range of tire options in brand, performance, and price! The problems associated with sticking with the original, obsolete 13" tire specification after half a century will only get worse with each passing year. If your car is a driver and not just a show car, the 14" or 15" or larger wheel size will lead to better, safer and more-affordable street tires for your classic Corvair.

Hard to say Brad. Yesterday someone showed me a 59 Mercedes 200D and it uses the same 185/80X13 tire! The Mercedes owners have been talking to Maxxis and have been reassured the tire will continue to be made for the U.S.A. The 185/80x13 is used on other older cars.bbodie52 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 24, 2017 1:11 pm The Amazon.com North Carolina vendor was just at $100 per tire with free shipping, which makes the Coker Tire price somewhat ridiculous! While I prefer a 14" rim on my Corvairs I keep running into folks that say they can't find 14" of 15" tires anymore!! While the choices are limited, I still can get 205/70X14 for the front and 245/60X14 for the rear on my Corvairs.
I rode in a Corair recently with 17" rims and "rubber band" tires - AWFUL RIDE and darty handling on the road.
If all else fails - Cooker will make an expensive replacement tire. Ah the price of a hobby!

Yeah 17" rims are a little big requiring a pretty low profile tire to stay at stockish O/A diameters. In a 17" rim the best match tire size is a 215/45R 17. To me anything under a 50 series profile tire starts to get a bit stiff ride wise. In some tires a 45 series is marginally acceptable ride wise to my old but. Anything shorter is certainly too stiff for me.
