What the hell is this!?
I took got my Corvair on axle stands and popped the wheels off today and saw this in my spring. It's only on one side. I'm worried they have used it to correct the suspension in some way? Any ideas?

That's a spring spreader, back in the mid to late 60's every body wanted to jack up the front ends. Never seen them used in the back. Maybe a weak spring or some fat guy drove it. I have 4 of them in my garage.

Thanks for your reply i have been worried since i saw it that it was some bodgery done to mask bad repair damage, as the other side has always had more positive camber, but this would explain why if this side has been raised I guess.
Thanks

I had those in the front springs of my '61 Biscayne in 1967. Probably from J C Whitney.
