Rampy mods, BIG mods

Post by Racemaster »

Hello everybody. I haven't been on here in a LONG time. I've still got a couple Rampsides a van, coupe and misc parts laying around. I've really been thinking about building my Rampside. I want to go all out on it, serious changes. Here's a list of things I want to do to it. If anybody has done these things I'd love to pick your brain and get details so I don't have to 'reinvent the wheel' when I start on mine. To start with I want to just accumulate the needed parts then when I have everything pull it in the shop and start the process.

I want to:
put front disc brakes on it (for obvious reasons) A long time ago I talked with someone on here with a loadside that had done disc brakes but I didn't save the details, or if I did I lost them.
put it on air bags and lower it ( want to lower and improve the stance ) I've seen pictures of a couple done like this but have NO idea on what they did to achieve it.

I have a freshly built (very built) 140HP 4 carb engine for it. At first I thought I would just rebuild the carbs and run with it the way it is, however I'm also considering fuel injection. I'm not looking to buy the "kit" that Clarks has but rather use parts from other cars to build my own port FI setup (O2 sensor, coolant temp sensors, fuel pump, injectors, computer, etc). If anybody has done this let me know how it's worked out for you.

I'm quite mechanically inclined, ok very mechanically inclined so nothing scares me. What I really hope to do is discover what I can use of of what kind of car, make the needed modifications to make the parts work properly on my Rampy. If I can get imput from other vair peeps that have done some of this on a van or ramp that would save me a ton of time. When this happens I would gladly make video's of the modifications and list all the parts used, what they came off of, ect and happily share them with the forum.

I'm not going to start any new projects until after the Jan 1st (have to finish a few up between now and then) but I would like to start digging through salvage yards and accumulating the needed parts between now and then.

I'm looking forward to hearing details................

do you mean a *real* port fi setup w/all the head work, separate intake tubes, etc., or something like just welding welding injector bungs on the heads?

this isnt a port fi setup........http://www.american-pi.com/corvair/html/EZ-EFI.html......but its a way to get efi on a vair & you can build your own fi system with the o2 sensor, coolant temp sensors, fuel pump, injectors, computer, etc, you want.

Scott,
I was planning to just add an injector port to the head or use a tube style intake (like one that comes up to run a 4V carb on top) and tat a hole in it.
However, that link you sent is an interesting option. I hadn't thought about using the actual carb bodies for the air flow and adding an injector to it. It's a little expensive but worth looking into. I need to research what fuel injection system I can rob from an older GM car for starters.
Thanks
