Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair
Re: Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair
For those of you who don't look at every post (and that's ok). I recently made a "how to" post on replacing roof rail weatherstrips. Click HERE
Also noted are what adjustments to the windows my car needed (almost all of them).
While it was lots of fiddly work getting the windows right and the doors to shut properly after the weatherstrips had settled in (I changed the primary door & quarter window edge seal also) I am super happy with the results. It's not perfect but it's way better than it was. I hope you check it out.

Re: Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair
The Vair got a ride courtesy of AAA today. Lost spark as I was accelerating onto the highway. I'm not mad as the weather was perfect and Sunday is a good day to break down. And I was able to get it towed home -about 10 miles
I will report back with my findings.

Re: Cad-kid's 65 Monza - my first Corvair
The Corvair is back on normal duty. The original distributor is back in (with all new tune up parts plus a rebuilt points plate). The old coil is back in as the other one I was using can't be used with a points system that includes a ballast resistor (drops the voltage when the car is running so the points last longer). New wires complete the package (as the other wires use a different connector on the distributor cap).
I haven't performed an autopsy on the other distributor yet as that is where the issue was.

I say the more informative videos out there the better! Sometimes I'll be watching a video on something, and while the person is explaining things in a simple, informative way, for some reason I'm unable to completely comprehend what it is they say, while the next video I watch may give me that "aha!" moment!
Also, car is quite beautiful, the colored sparkplugs definitely make the engine pop a little more.

Thanks! After already having red plug wires (those looked great as well) I wanted something a little different.Akinon93 wrote:"the colored sparkplugs definitely make the engine pop a little more.

Where did you get the plug wires? Were they specifically for the Corvair?

Excellent question. Those were purchased from Clark's. But they are made by Seth Emerson - his business is silicone wire systems. You can buy direct from Seth also. The wires are awesome!dagdal1967 wrote:Where did you get the plug wires? Were they specifically for the Corvair?
Oh and yes they are custom made for the Corvair and have excellent boots with slide on seals for the air shroud.

Thank you for your post and all the nice pictures. I've got myself an Industrail sewing machine and in the process of making my covers. I'm still in the practice mode perfecting my stitches, learning to do pleats and deciding my design. After reviewing your post, I'm seeing that I may have more work then I was planing to get the foam and frames ready
TY again

Here are some pictures of my samples and practice. I'm getting better but it's a lot of work. I'm retired and have a bad back so I can air in my ass and practice

Yes, if I don't sell here this year I will pay for a monthly rental self storage spot. I care too much for this car to let her sit out over the winter.
