Boiling sound coming from underneath carbs

Post by jmikulec »

I have had my vair running good for a while now and when I ran it for a little while sitting still to tune the carbs, I heard and saw a boiling liquid coming from underneath the carbs? What in the world is going on?

Perhaps it is some sort of gasket sealer that someone used on the insulating blocks

That material can soften and ooze with engine heat

I know now because someone left my engine lid up and never put it down letting a light rain get in. And they never told me.

Time to break out the mechanics stethoscope and listen to a pin point for that sound.
Hard to tell from the picture, but do you have the insulator spacer and gaskets under each carburetor?
What you may be hearing is fuel boiling in the float bowl. Modern fuels vaporize much faster then old leaded gas.

Dave wanted to be sure you had a gasket on the top & bottom of the insulator.

Yea I got brand new rebuilt carbs from Clark's with new gaskets and the insulator. I figured out that someone had left the hood open and rain got in.
