Remember this area does not fit flush at the back edge (lid sticks out farther than the 1/4 panel mating with the cast cove trim piece). It does need more curve down for sure. Its a shame Mart I have thrown away panels that were way better than what you have to work with. The car is looking excellent anyway!!

the cast cove trim pieces are already fitted and moulded in. The repair was done away from the car so I guess a little fettling is to be expected

Yes, its going to take a bit of fettling to get a good fit...perhaps I should just use rivets and bondo, instead of welding new steel into it.... much faster and easier....but my conscience wont allow it

You know...i have been watching and reading this post, gleening all the knowledge and technique that i could from it, and asking questions. But with that last comment...Mart, i have lost a big ammount of respect for you sir. That was totally uncalled for!!! I have no affiliation or relation to SteveH, so it is with a bystanders mind that i am telling you this. You went into his post and provoked him re: what he was doing...i had thought you buried the hatchet, but appearantly not. Now...you take another shot at him on your own post.

Thanks VM, but really it is Ok. Mart has good reason to be touchy about sub-standard repairs and every right to post his thoughts and opinions here on his thread. I felt the same way you reacted, but then I considered his experiences with his car. If I had the opportunity I would be just as particular on mine.

I made no reference to anyone regarding my comment about rivets and bondo, that is how my car was restored by the previous owner, which looked fine to the untrained eye, but was in a dangerous condition in my opinion. The part I was referring to is not structural or safety dependent , but having done all previous repairs in the correct way, I could not bring myself to do a quick bodge on the lid

It hasn't arrived yet...looking forward to having another old car to cruise in....I love the Merc, but its just too new

I was hoping to paint it this year, but I got a little too involved with the Maverick. Now the Maverick is safe to drive , I can get a little more done, the engine cover is still a little off, so that is my next priority
