Long over due update.
The Rampside is off to the paint shop. You can see by one picture, what kind of car's they do here.
It's a high end shop. Lots of hand blocking and finish work. They specialize in 50's and 60's vintage and street rod cars.
I m amazed at the detail and finish I see here! Dad's Rampy should be looking quite good after this treatment. I saved a bundle
doing the metal work and welding where needed. Also having removed what amounted to 4 paint jobs helps.
This will not be a cheap job. But it's a tribute to my Father and that makes this all worth while. I did not mention that Dad passed away last June.
So this project has even more sentimental meaning.
I have so much nice shiny stuff waiting to go back on the Rampy. Dann makes the New Ramp and tailgate latch assemblies. I have
them and those look so great. I also have Craigs FC Reflectors, made by Dann. More spiffy stuff coming!
Getting excited!

Well.... after over 200 hrs of block sanding and detailing, the Rampy is getting color! This is not counting the metal working, welding and prep I did before sending it off to paint. Today the clear-coat is getting a 3 step color sanding and then an over-all polishing, including the inside of the bed and cab! I cannot find a flaw on it. But then... after the investment I have made, I hope not to! I like just walking around this shop. As I posted before, they specialize in vintage and street rod vehicles form the 1950's and 1960's. Their work is top end! :tu:
I just may have the Rampside to play with back at home for the New Years Holiday. But if it's not quite ready, I'm not pushing it. The final painting they will be doing is the bed and floor of the cab. RatRod Satin Black.

Looking nice. Make me lust after the 62 Loadside I used to own.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.
Currently working full time repairing Corvairs and restoring old cars.

Got m e a pair of these!!!

Post by Corventure Dave »

I got a set of Dann Weinoe's new Re-Pop of the extremly rare FC factory mirrors. These are exact to every detail.
Even the offset pivot for the mirror head.
I painted mine to match the body color with the White mirror holder.
Not shone is the included mounting hardware.

Look for these from your Corvair Parts Venders. I have been looking for these for many many years.
I also have a detailed article in the Corvanantics newsletter.

The new Dann Weinoe Tailgate and Ramp Latches are so superior to the origionals but match in every detail. I really like the stainless steel handle
and other steel parts that he made in place of the soft pot-metal parts. They may appear pircey... but the work maknig all toolings and even the spring
in house and all made right here in the USA, is fantastic. Check your favorite Corvair parts vender for these. They are available chromed steel, brushed stainless and polished stainless.
Wow!

I am using all stainless steel, button Allen bead fasteners in the Rampside bed. Every bolt visable and not is stainless.

OK.... I decided to make myself some more work!!!!
So.. how much wood can a Woodchuck chuck???

I have no special talent as a wood worker. But I do still have all 10 fingers.
Here I am cutting some clear Red Oak.

Cripes... 68 total pieces and not all nearly the same! All from bulk 2X6 planks!
