Posted already but wanted to introduce myself

Post by wbabst »

I have already posted a few times in Mechanical Questions but thought I would introduce myself here. I am a long time old car guy, my first car was a 1956 Buick Super Sedan, and the newest car I ever purchased was a 1965 Lincoln Continental. I am from Southern California, but up in Washington currently for my work. Wife can't wait to get back to the land of fruits and nuts though so we will see how long I am here. I have always been a bit of a Buick guy, but I have owned a 1956 Chevy and purchased a 1961 Corvair Monza Coupe in 2010.

The Coupe was a non-runner so but it wouldn't be my first restoration, but looking back I was a sucker to buy it. There is some body damage, but it is totally solid, no Rust and is still red underneath. I didn't have the money at first to start working on it, now I do but don't have the time. Still making some progress, but since it was supposed to be for my daughter and it isn't done we got her a 63 Monza Convertible to drive.

I installed a head temp gauge and oil pressure gauge in it and we are having a ball driving it.

Anyways I really enjoy the forum and even with years of working on cars I am never afraid to ask questions. You can follow what I am doing on my 61 here. https://www.facebook.com/pages/Chevrole ... 7898185672

Thanks, I have access to a lathe and mill at work, I used the mill to duplicate the dash pattern on a piece of aluminum. I am very fortunate to have a boss that tolerates and even encourages my hobby, as long as it doesn't interfere with the work of restoring is airplane.

I am in the process of restoring a 66 Corsa coupe, my first time digging into a car so excited. Nice to see custom touches like this and get pointers.

Hey wbabst, Just saw your pic of the convert you bought your daughter. What a beauty, she has daddy wrapped around her little finger doesn't she ? Well done on the car ! I wonder if you can tell me the wheel manufacturer , wheel sizes, wheel backspace, and tire sizes ? I hope your family enjoys your new location, there are lots of cool places to live besides S. Cal. Have fun with your project! hawkeyesheroes

I sure would be interested in buying one of your gauge bezels, if you are willing to take the time (on your lunch breaks:) ) to make another. Is $35.00 worth your time? Thanks...Todd

Hi Todd, between the planning laying it out and actually making it I probably have about 3-4 hours in making the panel. I did it more as a labor of love more than a money making project. I appreciate the offer but I am trying to spend my free time to getting my 61 up and running.

By the why I have access to this if you follow this link, it will take you to our Goose Restoration/Refurbishment project.

I hope you will take a look. If I find myself for any reason making another 63 aluminum panel I will let you know.
