Smoke out of PCV tube
Smoke out of PCV tube
When I rev the engine (with the air breather lid off), i see smoke coming out the top of the tube. I did notice there's too much oil in it. Could this just be blow by? When the engine cools down, I'll drain some out and try again. OR, could this be a bigger problem? Engine gets VERY hot at red lights.

Whoa!......"drain some out"...?? Usually, oil up in your air filter is a sign of too much blow-by.eForce wrote:When the engine cools down, I'll drain some out and try again.
That's exactly what it is.eForce wrote:Could this just be blow by?
How are you sure? Idling should be pretty much the least likely scenario for overheating.eForce wrote:Engine gets VERY hot at red lights.

Did you disconnect the vacuum tube on the side of the crankcase breather tube and check the fixed orifice to make sure it is clear and clean? If it is clogged a significant part of the PCV system would not be functioning properly.

I did a complete oil change. It seems ok now. Oil was as black as can be but it was fairly fresh oil. Definitely blow by. I wonder if I gummed up my valves and/or plugs.
Thanks guys.

If the oil was really black but was recently installed, I think you should change it again very soon. I Would think that perhaps your are cleaning out the crap in the motor...there might be more:)

Do a compression and a cylinder leak down test. That will tell you what would be causing any excessive blow by
