:goodpost: Image :goodpost: I find that I fully agree with all of the above comments! I posted this in the other thread, but I'll post a copy here too...
Brad Bodie wrote:  The show spent too much of the one hour time slot presenting a confused, uncertain plan for funding and performing the restoration, and criticizing the nature and psychology of dealing with the hoarding owner(s).
When it was discovered that they were dealing with a yard full of mostly scrap metal Corvairs :sad5: :puke: and not the expected Corvette Nirvana, or Shangri-La :inlove: they spent a lot of time ridiculing the Corvair in general and the owner's state of mind. The car restoration itself almost appeared to be an afterthought. In the end they had apparently "restored" two Corvairs with minimal body prep and a paint jobs. There was no mention of working with the brakes, suspension, interior, or powertrain. With the funding and time constraints, I was left with wondering just how safe, complete and driveable these two Corvair graveyard refugees really were in the end. Were these Corvairs ground-up restorations, or experimentations with external bodywork that present nicely from a distance, but turn out to be a rushed "Bondo bucket" that is superficial and mechanically unfinished and unreliable once the owners settle down and spend some time with them?

The viewer is left with an impression of a poorly planned restoration. The unique nature and history of Corvairs is never presented at all. Little time was spent covering the "restoration", and although the hosts spent effort praising their own history with custom cars, as a viewer I came away uncertain about the "team's" credibility :drinkinbuddy: or the quality of the restoration that had been performed.

:dontknow: Is this show trying to emulate Chip Foose and OVERHAULIN?? My impression was something closer to Jesse James and MONSTER GARAGE.

I enjoy watching the quality workmanship, careful quality control and planning and project documentation overseen by Chip Foose in Overhaulin. The outcome of each car on that show seemed complete, inspiring and exceptional. In Overhaulin, the car owner and his family is never ridiculed for having a long incomplete dream car that has turned into a "hanger queen". Instead, the team takes pride in turning that dream into a reality. That was not the feeling I had with this show. I may watch one more episode to give it the benefit of the doubt, but if the subsequent episodes are like this one I think I will pass.

:beavisbutthead: :bart: :tease:
I changed my mind... I won't be watching this ridiculous, poorly executed show again! :td: :td: :td:

Brad, your comments are right on. There is NO WAY that any car guy (even if he does not like Corvairs) could watch a presentation about the history of the Corvair and not find it at least somewhat interesting (I mean a truthful/historically accurate presentation, not a bunch of Nader crap). First American rear engine, first GM unibody, first American all aluminum engine, first American car with 4 wheel independent suspension, Nader's claims about safety proven to be wrong in University and US government studies, the list goes on...

I have been watching some of the latest Overhaulin shows in the garage lately. That show has really come a long way from where it was. It still plays to the cheesy insider thing, but they really do go the extra mile for the owner. They have turned the thrash into a well oiled process, and they are clearly aware of their ability to pull off a successful build. In the beginning they were putting out some sketchy cars, but lately the feedback is really positive, and the show really lays out some real accomplishment and emotion.

The teal blue Lakewood was bought by Marty Katz. He and his son are building a drag car out of it.
Kregg still has the red 4 spd wagon.

They were acting like they were psychiatrists. Acting like Kregg had some problem. There's nothing wrong with keeping Corvairs. IMO the show was a bust. And it wasn't because of Kregg or any other Corvair guys. It was the hosts arrogant attitude. And the simple fact that they knew nothing about corvairs. They treated his Corvair parts and corvairs like they were junk. I probably would have told them to get out. And who the heck is Rick Dore. Never heard of him. Just another worthless "reality" show IMO...

Come on guys. It is a show staring a ex pro wrestler and a guy who spells custom with a "k" because it is "k"ool and hip. It is a reality show for dramatic affect. I did not and will not watch it. I LOVE cars shows but only the ones that try to improve and showcase the hobby. I really like Wheeler Dealers, Overhaulin. Mecum auctions but I never liked the drama shows like any of the Harley build shows or ones where they just yell at each other instead of talking about cars.

Any true car guy does not bash another car but tries to understand the reason for its creation. All cars such as pintos, gremlins, edsels etc offer a unique glimpse into the era they were made. This show will never last, the car show landscape is too crowded already.

It would certainly be better than the Car Hordes show. Can I be a guest star? Pimp understudy??

I just have to say, I seriously like wheeler dealer. Hands down the best car show out there. Those guy are no BS car guys. They do what normal guys would do, without a bunch of non-sense.

I love Mike and Ed. I watch every episode. One thing I love to see is that Ed, despite being a professional mechanic, uses hand tools for almost every job. While they don't make every car "perfect" they show how to prioritize problems and throw money where it needs to go and save it where it doesn't.

...Unlike my Corvair restoration, which is "throw money at everything". :-)

One of my favorite shows as well...I really liked the "Trading Up" episodes where Mike traveled the globe flipping cars. It was cool to learn about the different car cultures in each country he visited.
