pensylvania bondo bucket
Re: pensylvania bondo bucket
Hi All, I THINK. We have been cussing the wrong people, I DOUBT that the dealer that sold that car, had anything to do with those terrible repairs. The car itself looked pretty nice, until the new owner started looking close. I'm not sticking up for the dealer that sold the car, but the dealers don't tear a car apart to inspect them before selling them. I think the garage that showed (on the posted receipt) repairs totaling over $1100.00 are the ones we should be cussing. and the previous owner, either didn't look closely at the repairs, OR just told the garage to do a CHEAP repair.
You are doing a very nice job on repairing the PA bondo bucket. You can be (will be) proud of that car when finished....

Re: pensylvania bondo bucket
Right pedal autosales are a dealership specialising in classic cars. Either they didnt know about the condition (in which case they dont know what they are doing and should be avoided) , hard to believe as I got a rough idea of the cars condition before it even got of the shippers trailer....or they knew exactly what it was like and deliberately delayed shipping to avoid ebay time limits....and again should be avoided. They gave a full (false) description of the car ,and sent me many photographs,so the car must have had a full inspection, but none of them showed the obvious problem areas , only focusing on the areas that looked ok....although as it turned out, these areas are bad too. They must have read the "resto" receipt and realised that the only parts listed on it were rivets and filler...that would have sounded alarm bells for me. The restoration was carried out by a boat repair yard, not noted for car welding repairs I suspect....but good with foam and filler
Re: pensylvania bondo bucket
I'm sure they knew... It's funny how ebay promotes long distance sales and Craigs List says to avoid it.
Ebay should allow a longer time for cars to be inspected by long distance buyers. And an intermediary in case something goes wrong.
Dealers are well known for looking to buy junk and peddle it to unsuspecting buyers. I try avoid them as they're in business to make money, not friends.
I've worked at sales lots and been in company with dealers, and they're waiting for the sucker with dreams of what's on the lot, and no or poor credit, or long distance buyers that have no recourse.

Mart,
I thought my car was bad with the rust repairs, You give me hope. My Doors look just like yours but I haven't gotten to the doors still working the rear quarter panels and Trunk.
Keep up the great work

Hopefully the doors will be the last things to weld, after the rocker panel and door post

Re: pensylvania bondo bucket
Progress so far on drivers door post and bottom of door, quite tricky to do

Looking good Mart. The hinge pillar is a fun area to patch isn't it?? :) I have done a number of them.

I much prefer to not do this patch. Unfortunately it is too often necessary to patch at least some of this area on many even otherwise decent cars.mart wrote:I aim to make this the last one, despite being great funterribleted wrote:Looking good Mart.
