Not new to cars, Just Corvairs !!!

Post by Kayvair »

Just picked up our first Corvair, a one owner 63 with 41,000 miles always garaged. This will be my daughters first car when she turns 16 next month ! The car still has the original interior and is almost perfect other than the red carpet turning more pink than deep red, owners manual and other Chevrolet pamphlets still in the glove box. Other than the fender being repainted around the gas door, the car still retains its original paint job. This car gets so many thumbs up and compliments I'm thinking I should have kept it for myself !

Looks like a really nice car! This looks more like a "Dads car" rather than a daughter car.

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like a nice sunny day. Are you in California?

:welcome2:

:not worthy: This is such a nerve-wracking time for a father! But I cannot think of a better way to take this huge step than to put her behind the wheel of a super-clean Corvair like this!

...And then there comes dating... :nono: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:  :whoa:

:jawdrop:  :caveman: :hunting: :beavisbutthead: :torch:

I only raised boys. I don't know how you do it!!!

Maybe if you teach her how to work on the car and you both maintain/repair it together she will let you drive it once in a while as your reward — after she gets her license.

Congratulations on being such a wise daddy! Beautiful car!!

Congrads! I just purchased a 64 convertible for my grand daughter, She is getting her license soon. I did not tell her yet because I live in NY and the Corvair is in Florida. I will drive it home next month. My Grand daughter looks like your daughter. If I am lucky she will not like it and I will get to keep it.lol

Welcome! I had two daughters that I had to go through the process with and it turned out OK; only a few scratches and bump. She'll be fine.

Your daughter and her Corvair both look lovely! If you're interested in adopting a son and buying him a Corvair, I'm available :). You are fortunate to have a child interested in classic cars - not an "old car" from the '90's.

Your car shows how nice it is to live in CA. Corvairs in Maine rarely look that good without significant restoration and winter storage. But I want to put a pitch in for just how well a Corvair behaves as a daily driver. I use mine often in any weather and any season [and it shows :)]. At 136,000 miles it's had its share of breakdowns, but they're the sort of problems that could afflict any old car [wheel bearings, vapor lock, alternator bearing freeze-up]. Parts are a doodle because of terrific specialist support from Clarks, Corvair Underground and others - with maintenance parts still available from FLAPS.

Good luck and enjoy!

Jeff

Hey Jeff, I still have another daughter who will be driving in another 3 years, can't take on any more teenagers !! :) I see these snowy pictures that you and other members have posted and I guess I shouldn't complaint about the weather in Northern California, even though we do need some rain ! I've gone through the car for the basics, brakes, tune up, lights but yes you can never predict a brake down.
Enjoying,Ki
