Will a Manual Posi and gears fit in PG?

Post by PressurizedPancake »

Have a line on a 4-speed w/posi. I'd like to use the posi in a PG, but haven't been able to tell if they are a direct swap. Also, I have been told that the diff itself is not interchangeable with the PG. Is that true? Any help, experience or suggestions would be appreciated. Also, open for opinions on street driving posi with turbo power or more.

Entire diff unit is not interchangeable. I would think the posi chunk would be swappable, but, of this I am not positive.

You can take the POSI carrier cover and it's special side gear and the bearing adjuster and add them to your existing differential as long as the holes match up. Early carriers and ring gears are drilled for 6 retaining bolts. Lates are drilled for 9.
When I was 17 I made a hybrid for my 68. It was going to be bolted to the 66-69 Saginaw 4 speed.
I used an early 6 bolt carrier on one side.
I used a 9 bolt Posi cover on the other side.
I used a 3.89 ring and pinion set from a 62 with the 6 bolt ring gear.
I modified the late 9 bolt Posi cover to allow use with a 6 bolt ring gear by milling off some of the ribs on the cover and redrilling several holes.
It worked like a champ!
Down side is if you break any of the Posi parts they can be very hard to find and very expensive.

Thanks to you all for your input. I neglected to mention the manual is a 66, and the PG is a 68, so it sounds like the gears will swap. I will take your advice. The price is right, I don't think I can get hurt on it, and we'll give it a shot!
