1963 Rampy Refurbish
Hello everybody, it's been a while since I've logged on. Life has been crazy and there just seems to be little time for anything of late. When I last was on here I had bought a 61 Rampside and was asking lots of questions and got some great info. I still have the 61 and plan to build it as my company vehicle, however I picked up a 63 Rampside shortly after and decided to do it first. I'm planning to sell it when it's done and let it fund the 61 Rampy project.
I lucked up on this 63. The previous owner had already rebuilt the entire brake system, suspension, gone through gear box, rebuilt the carbs and started on body work. The entire underside of the Rampy is finished, new everything. It only had 3 rusty spots and he had already cut the metal out. Here's a few pics of what it looked like the day I bought it.

Here's a few update pics. Progress is slow, but it's still progress. It's tough when you do this work all day on customers cars then try to find the time and ambition to do it on one of yours.

Re: 1963 Rampy Refurbish
You have done some amazing work! I'm just beginning a restoration of a 61 Rampy, and I will be taking notes from your progress. How did you clean the cab floor boards so well? I've been working on removing this black, tar-paperish material (sound deadener?) for hours, and even with a heat gun it persists!
Also, what paint brand and color is that? It looks great. Did you take it down to metal first, or just hit it with a heavy sanding to get a good bite?

Re: 1963 Rampy Refurbish
I used a 4 1/2" grinder with stiff wire brush to clean the cab floor. The color you see now is the interior, wheel and stipe color. The main part of the body will be a different color. I took the majority of the body down to metal because I wasn't sure what was under the primer the previous owner had sprayed on it. More pics to come soon.......

Beautiful truck! What are you going to do with the bed? Liner all or in part? Up the bed walls or just on the floor?
I can't tell if that green primer is epoxy or ?? Finally, unless I missed it, you never did say what paint system you were using. The finish is out of this world- really nice.
Thanks.

Re: 1963 Rampy Refurbish
I'm searching for a good spray in liner guy now. I'm going to have the entire bed including walls and covers sprayed in black liner.
I stripped the truck to bare metal so I had to use an etching primer to start then a 1k, 2k and sealer primer.
