Never in the history of our great nation has the government told you what product have to buy.
I don't know about where you all live, but in my state, you are required by the Government to purchase auto insurance. You're also required to purchase a helmet if you want the privilege of riding a motor cycle. You're required to buy a hunting licence, fishing licence, etc. You're ordered to pay taxes for services, *weather you want or need them or not*. This nation is no stranger to ordering you to buy or pay for something you don't want.
I'm not defending this bill, mind you. Just making a point about how we've become so used to complying with being told what to do here, that we take it for granted now. It's exactly the mindset and apathy that they are hoping we'll fall into later.
We've been more and more socialist since this nation was built. All one has to do is look at California to see how things end up when you go *too* liberal. We're broke, powerless to fix it, and pretty much hoplessly screwed now. This is what happens when the liberals get full reign.
While that is a big win for the conservatives to point to this state and say "see? your liberal ways will screw us all" Remeber there's an equal and opposite side of that coin. There's such a thing as *too* conservative. Dry counties? Porn and ownership of sex toys outright banned? Radical ethnic hate, police stopping people who "look like they might be an illegal" and demanding papers?
That's a bit too extreme the other way for me at least. (hey, NO ONE is taking my porn. LOL)
So all I'm saying is that there needs to be a middle ground. a common sense answer to this type of situation. Why we cannot find one these days, in this age of connection with SO many people, boggles my mind.
