By the way, I noticed in this earlier Corvair picture that there was an AMC Rambler Marlin in the background. Anybody remember those? One of our neighbors used to own one of them and I used to see it being driven around our neighborhood in the 1960s. Even as a kid I thought it was a little funny looking – a poor styling attempt to try to capitalize on the popularity of the Mustang fastback and other cars with a similar roofline that was popular at the time.
AMC Marlin
Sales: 17,000
(1965 through 1967)
Originally known as the Rambler Marlin, this car was American Motors Corp.'s contender into the near-luxury segment in the mid-1960s and a part of an ill-conceived strategy to attack Ford, GM and Chrysler at their strongest points. This relatively large fastback preceded the Dodge Charger by about a year, generating excitement but little in the way of sales.
