From what I can tell by the Clark's catalog, their repro rubber pieces are:
A front one...shaped like a "V" does not have a metal insert (as I guess it did originally?), but the rear piece...straight upright one, does have a metal insert.
#1. Am I reading that correctly?
#2. Is there a metal insert in my original one that will fit the repro one?

That is correct. I do not believe you can use the existing insert in the new part. Been awhile since I had one of these apart but as I recall the metal was molded in to the rubber and the new part simply installs without it.
