Im thinking of painting my car...

Post by TonyL »

I did up a quick render the other day because I was bored. It's chewing away at me. My flat black scheme is SO 2009. LOL.

Im thinking BRIGHT red, with a gunmetal gray stripe and wheel centers. My interior is already dark gray.

what does everyone think?

Here's how it looks now. Same stripe. Different color

I'm not so sure maybe taper the hood stripe down more towards the nose with more of a curve in it than solid and straight like that. IMO i would thin out the stripe a bit because vairs aren't very big it kinda seems to control the side of the car especially with the color contrast.

That's actually the idea. To pull your eye away from the huge quarters in the back of the car.

The red/gunmetal pops!

No offense.... The flat/semi-black has been way overdone in the past 2-5 years. Don't get me wrong, it looks GREAT on your Vair, the gloss black stripe breaks it up..... Kinda like the Torque Thrust II's I have on mine. Every car show you go to has a lot of vehicles with these wheels. I bought mine back when the first came out with the II's, look at the following I have. :rolling:

That's why i want to change it. I painted it a few years back when there were like NO cars that were flat black. Only rat-rods had been done. No muscle cars. Now there's a TON of them. The shock factor is gone, it's just another semigloss car. Time to try something new.

My opinion...

Love the red and gray. :tu:

Match the exterior gray wheel inserts and stripe... (or chevron) to the interior color. I assume that's what you were already thinking though.

Tony-

I rather like the current paint scheme. The flat black gives it a subtle menacing look, and the tasteful use of the contrasting black stripe adds visual interest without drawing too much attention to itself.

With the red and gray paint scheme you are going to lose that subtle and slightly bada$$ look that it has now. You WILL get more attention for sure, but do you want that kind of attention, especially from the ticket-issuing kind?

If you want to go with a color that has more pop, how about a metallic orange? I've only seen a couple pics of late models in that color, and they have looked stunning. A contrasting stripe in a deeper orange would again add visual interest without drawing too much attention to itself.

As you can tell, my design sensibilities lean towards a more restrained look that does not scream "Look at Me." My $.02, take it for what it's worth.

Okay so it's been (not quite) a week since you made the rendering of your ride in red.

So at this stage... where are you? Still thinking red or have you moved on?

Just curious. ::-):

So are you shooting this or will someone else?

Yeah, I hear you.

The last body color we shot was House of Kolor "Majic Blue". Damned expensive paint and even more expensive (labor wise) to shoot.
