belt line trim questions (1961 lakewood)

when i removed the trim from my 61 lakewood, the METAL screws/fasteners at the end of each trim piece were completely rusted and just crumbled. there's 1-2 per door, one on the rear trim pieces, etc.

what the hell can i use in their place? it looks like they should slide into the trim like the plastic fasteners do, and then attach to a screw through round holes on the doors, etc.


and speaking of the PLASTIC fasteners, is there a trick for sliding them back into the trim? i'd rather not bend each trim piece's lip up by the opening in the channel, but after failing to slide one in easily, i could use a tip.
