Re: Corvair of the Month May 2012
Think this will be the last i'll put mine up, kind of redundant to put it up over and over..
But same ol' info,
I'm Jason and turn 33 this month! And my Corvair turns 47 this month too lol (built 4th week of May). I have owned my 65 Monza since 8-14-07. This is my first Corvair, but not my first classic car ;) I bought this Corvair with a burnt valve. It had the original 110 with powerglide in it. At that time it needed some int work and finishing details. I replaced the head and drove the car with the stock driveline for about a year. I got a 69 parts car with this when i bought it. It had a 140 and 3spd in it. i took and put the driveline in mine and drove it that way for about a year, till i changed out the 3spd for a 4spd. Over the years since i've had the car i put in new int, trim, and wheels and other small details. As the car sits now it's pretty much done. I still need to freshen up the rear susp. and replace the clutch. The paint is about 10yo and needs wet sanded and buffed. But it is a head turner!!! The car is a bare bones car with no options.
Basic car info:
1965 Monza
140hp
4 speed
Danube Blue
Blue int
The car was sold in Arlinton, VA on 6-18-65 at Rosenthal Chevrolet
Engine
140hp (GM replacement block, XAA code)
1.6 Comp Cam roller tip rockers
Clarks Stinger exhaust (i run no baffles)
deep oil pan
IECO single 4bbl set up
Holley 450cfm carb
Summit/Jegs "Ram Air" aircleaner
Trans:
4 speed
Wheels n Tires:
Keystone Klassic wheels
front,
15x7 205/60
rear,
15x8 225/60
Ext:
Danube blue
white stripe on lower body line
69 Camaro front spoiler
real amber high beams (GE 4001A)
Int:
Blue
Tissue box under dash
aftermarket tach in center of cluster (Make unknown, But is Made in Italy)
vintage JC Whitney compass
AMCO walnut shift knob

Well just because there should be a Spyder on every calendar. I list for your consideration my 1962 Spyder. All new interior, runs like a top, its the wifes car. So unless you want the look, you better vote for hers.

Re: Corvair of the Month May 2012
I'll give this a try even though it's not mine yet.
64 Spyder coupe
paint code 943 bc/cc goldwood yellow
ENGINE
#'s matching block
factory "304" cam
EM compressor / LM turbine
ignitor II
INT.
factory black upholstery
Auto meter gauges
Pioneer indash CD
Rockford fosgate 6x9 speakers
TRANSAXLE
#'s matching 4 spd.
3.55 gears
WHEELS & TIRES
13" steel rims
factory wire wheel covers
175/80/13 tires
It was a 5 1/2 year rotisserie restoration. The body was acid dipped, replaced with NOS parts, trunk lid, right front fender, front panel. I did all the body work, paint and color sanding & buffing, dad did all the mechanical work and we both did the int. There was a few tense moments, he wasn't going to put the turbo on but I trumped him when I said I wouldn't do the paint & body work unless the turbo went on.

Is the yellow spyder going to be in the running since it isn't even his car? Cause that's the one i was going to vote for.

I am not sure, I believe we are voting for the car and not the owner, but what if the owner is not a Corvair Forum member?JasonC wrote:Is the yellow spyder going to be in the running since it isn't even his car? Cause that's the one i was going to vote for.
Scott, can we have a ruling?

seems like that would open it up to any corvair that someone could find on the internet, whether they knew the owner or not - does not sound fair

Re: Corvair of the Month May 2012
Hi guys, been away and busy and havent been on the computor very much at all. I see we have nice entries this month, there should be more. I tend to agree with Jennirw that not owning the car does bring up whether or not its fair. JaconC brought up a very good question. I was reading the rules and it does state owning the car. Its Scotts call. Not to say the yellow car is really nice. I'll hope to be around the forum more in another week or so , but now we have another fine group of cars to look over. Lets have some voting involvement increase from all our members. Crazy George

Re: Corvair of the Month May 2012
Sounds like it's Dad's car, so I think the family connection should be enough to let it in. He worked on it too. My opinion only.
