new here got my first corvair

Post by freedo »

bought the car off my boss from work for $1500, runs and drives well, interior is solid besides the missing front mat or carpet, some rust spots on the body, and the floors are pretty solid. i plan to clean it and add some power to it, and just drive it

Welcome...

I never had a Boss like that.

Looks like you got a very good deal, interior nice, just one noticeable ding ( minor ) . throw in some new carpetrs and you are on your way.

Where are you located? You probably have a Corvair club and owners close by. You will find a lot of good help and nice people here.

Keep us posted on your new found adventure into Corvair Ownership.. :tu:

more background info on the car,
its been parked in a barn since 81, we pulled it out last week, and me and a coworker got it running in 30 mins, rebuilt the fron wheel cylinders and put on new rear wheel cylinders, e brake still works perfectly and everything, transmission shifts smoothly, we put on a borla muffer, and it sounds good, but it would sound better without the exhaust leaks, where can i find a newer single muffler manifold?

There are several major Corvair Suppliers, the one with the most is Clark's Corvair, then Rafee Corvair, closest is a large used Corvair parts place just outside Gettysburg Pa. can't think of the name ( I'm out west ) some one will post it's name and contact. There are others also out there. Just do a google on these...

I would also rebuild the master cylinder or change over to a dual master, just a afternoon job but makes it safer...

Beautiful car there and I know you will get hooked on them...

Lots of Corvair owners and Club activity in the PA area...

Interesting.....it's a '64 but it's got the "old style" inside door handles and window cranks. Also, do the rear side windows roll down? From that picture, it almost looks like there's no window cranks back there. Probably didn't come with a radio from the factory either.....I don't see that little radio "pod".

Nice car man, especially that interior!

Please post the VIN# and the information off the Body tag that is in the left frame rail in the engine compartment and we can tell you a lot about the car....

My boss doesn't give ma any great deals like this, matter of fact I get kidding about my Corvairs....

Well I guess it is all in good fun... :rolling:

What a great find... :tu: :tu: :tu:

Nice 500 series like this is very hard to find. These were usually the first to be run hard, trashed and thrown away. Few were saved. Be happy that you got this rare car and please keep it as original as possible... Also it will be worth more that way...
