65 Vair 8 build

Post by Vair-8 »

Well, my dad and I did it again. We just bought another Corvair. This is a Kelmark V8 conversion. We were told it was running a one time until the engine was blown. They started to rebuild a new engine but never finished. It sat in someones backyard for several years. We thought about keeping this as an Kelmark but after reading several post we have decided to convert it to a Crown conversion. We have everything to complete this project, but time will be the hold up. We are determined to get on the road.

Maaannnn, that's quite cool. I almost hate to see V8 'vairs because I feel like I've GOTTA get one!! The reason you guys are canning that Kelmark setup is because of the ring gear oiling problem??

Yep, exactly. Some people have modify the trans and added a pump to help with oil circulation but still having issues.

Could you run a reverse-rotation V8 and flip the ring gear to cure that problem? I believe the Kelmark setup gives more space behind the front seat IIRC.

Ya that's what I liked about the Kelmark it would give more leg room. We'll hold on to the conversion and maybe do one later. We have all the parts for the Crown so be no problem getting car on the road. Most of time will be spent in stalling the cooling system.

If you have questions about the PG set up it was originally designed by Arch Evans.

The first one was in this car and his cell number is: (310) 422-2037
