Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
I haven't heard the the front and rears need to be switched.
Tire size is 225/50/16.
If you want the staggered look you can run 205/55/16 in the front.
Here's a nice article on running those wheels too.

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
My 65 Vert the wheels are American Torque Thrust II's. 17x7 rear and 16x7 front. For tires I have Falken in 215/50-17 rear and 205/50-16 front. No rubbing and no problems. I think Tire Rack has info that may help. I had a CORSA member tell me about these sizes so I knew it would work plus my tire shop double checked.

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
I have 16 inch Irocs on my street car. You must install the rims marked front on the rear and vice versa... This is due to the backspacing. Tire size you need depends on ride height. I lower my cars drastically. I run 205 40 16 in the front with 225 50 16 in the rear. I work in the Tire business and find that low profile 16 inch tires are hard to find. Sizes that are avialable are 205/40/16 215/50/16 225/50/16 and there are some 225 45 16 in racing tires.

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
Would 16" rims from a 95 Trans Am fit on a 67 monza without difficulty?
Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
I think they would. Can you post some pictures and/or some specs?

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
I don't know any reason why you must switch the position of the IROC wheels - I have always ran them in the original GM "specified" position (including the 1/16th inch spacer used in rear position with the wheels labeled "rear"). I run 215/50ZR16 on the front and 245/50ZR16 in the rear. They are BFG G-force TA's. This is on my 66 coupe with a counter-rotating, built 215 buick in the rear, mated to a HD PG with a 4 spider posi-rearend. They look good with the lines of the LM and clear the aluminum brake drums (buick wildcat on rear, and 78 buick/malibu drums on the front) with space to spare.AlsV8 wrote:My wife wants 16 inch IROC wheels on her car , I know that the fronts go to the rear and rears to the front but what tire size works well with them

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
As I recall (I had a 94 Z-28 a few years back) the 93 and newer F-bodies (camaro and firebird lines) have drastically different backspacing than the older GM rear wheel drives do... and I mean seriously different!josh wrote:Would 16" rims from a 95 Trans Am fit on a 67 monza without difficulty?
Don't shoot me if I'm wrong, but I'm feeling pretty sure I remember correctly.

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
I'm only guessing here, but I'd say it is probably a matter of personal preference and also tire fitment. Installing them in reverse probably puts them very nearly even with one another front to rear in relation to the body, and putting them on the way they are labeled probably sets the rears a bit farther out from the fronts in a noticeable way. Also this would affect handling a bit... particularly the car's directional stability (tendency to wander a bit) at highway speed.

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
You're absolutely right - the 4th gen F-body wheels have something like 6" of backspace. It's possible to "make them fit", but they aren't "bolt on".Grymm wrote:As I recall (I had a 94 Z-28 a few years back) the 93 and newer F-bodies (camaro and firebird lines) have drastically different backspacing than the older GM rear wheel drives do... and I mean seriously different!josh wrote:Would 16" rims from a 95 Trans Am fit on a 67 monza without difficulty?

Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
To fit these I'm guessing you have to put on the metric studs to get them to fit right. Do you just need to drill the hubs and brakes out? Or is there something else?
Re: 16 inch IROC wheels
I have run both the IROC and GTA 16" wheels. My use is front labeled on the back and rear labeled on the front. That gives a little more clearance to the outside on the front and on the rear there is more clearance with the threaded end of the toe-in rod when running 245 section width tires. The spacers would do the same on the back.
There are aftermarket lug nuts that have the Corvair 7/16 thread and the proper buldge taper for the IROC wheels. Many people like to run longer wheelstuds for more thread engagement.
The brand of 225/50 tires I had had minor clearance problems on the lower fron wheelwell, easy to trim or just go with 215 or smaller tires.
