Hows your back doing from all the engine compartment work? ::-):
I have her tail way up in the air right now. I actually have to stand on a stepstool to reach parts of the engine compartment...

OK, she's all back together. Oil leak seems to be plugged, we'll see if the repair holds up. All engine tins painted, new balance tube installed, lots of minor crud cleaned off, new kick panel grilles from NJ cop, Marco supplied the balance tube, I supplied the blood and paint. Mag fan now original (not faded like exterior paint) body color, can't wait to get her painted.

Same pic as in the "COTM" thread, but it deserves to be seen in more than one place. :)
I'll be driving her to work tomorrow, I need to put a few miles on her making sure all is good before the 90+ mile round trip Sunday for the car show.

Dust is already collecting on the newly-painted shrouds. *shudder*

Went to the Corvair-Corvette car show today... pics follow. We were outnumbered about 3-1 by the Vettes.

There's one oddball, not a Vair, not a Vette, not even a Chevy!! Dunno how he got in. Check out the sweet 59 Vette that was there.

Another car show today, I got 1st place!! Well, there is a caveat...

This was my competition in the post WW2 stock restored class.... me! Threatening weather and a college football game in town kept them away in droves. Kind of a shame, as I arrived, a fellow in a pretty nice 64 Chevelle Malibu left, and he would have been in my class. It still counts for me though!

Yesterday's car show pics... such as it was. Only 5 cars stuck around for the whole thing. Still looking for the place to do my Corvair of the Month shot. *grin*

Congrats on what looks like a COTM victory =) I've voted for you several months now... love that car.

Hey, that is a GREAT way to stock up on trophy's to increase resale value! *Grin*

Maybe I could get a trophy if there was no competition!

My dad came over yesterday, he lives out of town, first time he's seen the Corvair. He had a 62 and the 68. We went for a ride, and he gave me a bit of advice, so I got inspired and reinstalled the Pertronix, this time after enlarging the adjustment slot so that I could get a proper .030 air gap. Then I found my rotor was sloppy loose on the shaft. I got a new one. Now, I have bumped the timing up enough that it will run and once it warms up, I'll set the timing tomorrow. It got too late tonight with Cub Scouts with my son to get it all done. I hate points, have I mentioned that before?
I had installed the Pertronix before, along with too many other things all at the same time, so I amanged to make it run fairly crappy. I got an new set of points and put all that back in, but the little sponge that lubricates the points cam disintegrated when I touched it, and the points wear fairly quickly, changing both dwell and timing, meh! So, now I checked the wire I installed to make sure it had full voltage to supply the Pert, and it did, I just assumed it did when I installed it, I'm that good. :fro: But, I couldn't set the proper air gap, it was way tighter than .030, so I think it was sometimes firing early and other times not. Anyway, I modified so now proper air gap can be achieved. I hope all timing issues are now put to rest.

I had a nice drive today to get a couple of goodies from a fellow who lives up by Albany, Oregon. While I was there, took this pic at a nearby covered bridge:
Image

Ran great all the way up, developed a miss on the way back, and I discovered oil all over the bottom of my fuel pump so I must not have it seated correctly, maybe that's the miss too, not enough fuel flow... I'll update after I check that out. Nice drive altogether, though, and it got me home with just a bit of nervousness on my part.

Yes, yes I did... the covered bridge is a couple of miles from his place. I got a driver's side door sill and a proper reverse rotation alternator fan.
