crossmember repairs starting to take shape, found a few more holes. Dont trust my little mig to weld tie rod area, penetration of 4mm plate is not great, waiting to borrow arc welder for this and some oxy acetylene gear to heat up and form bends as close to original as possible

I would check Corvair Ranch they have a bunch of stuff. Maybe Clarks has a used one too? I have an extra but I am not sure about shipping costs. Make sure you get all the parts needed.

You poor guy, it's amazing you haven't given up on Corvairs altogether with all the bad experiences you've been having =(

Be sure to use those of us who are State-side as a resource from now on, I'd have gladly checked out that car for you in advance if I knew you were going to buy one from so close to me.

Thats OK, Steve (homebrew) has one and so does Rafee, its all down to cost of shipping now I guess, I hear that early crossmembers will fit as long as they had a sway bar fitted as stock....is this right?

Crossmember repair is coming along. I managed to find a spring cup to fit exactly with the corvair front springs, from an old Ford Fiesta, modified with an extended shroud . Had to cut away some of the outside stiffening to get at rusted area, but will replace them easily, cost so far , including sandblasting, around $18 , well pleased so far, I just hope I have it set up right :fingerscrossed:

what a shame --- I knew this car was junk --- I live nearby and looked at in in person, I don't get on too often, but damn I would have loved to save you the trouble....
