Corsa monza dash differences

I started work on a custom corvair dash. Nothing to outrageous, just moving some gauges around so I can actually see them when I'm driving. I started with 1 65 corsa dash and 1 68 monza dash. when I started cutting them up to steal bits and pieces from each other I noticed that the steering column cut out is different sizes between the two, also the size of the cut out for the heater controls are a different size. Has anyone else noticed this? Do you know why? Both do not have A/C.
