Tube or tubeless tires

Post by atomicmoloch »

Wondering what other people use. I've been using tubeless radials on the original 1960 rims and they keep developing slow valve stem leaks!

Clean up the hole the stem goes in, the original wheels hold air fine with tubeless tires. Even in the 50’s cars were using tubeless tires. Inner tubes bring their own problems so don’t think that will be an easy solution.

The only car I ever bought new was a 2005 PT Snoozer. It came with a 7 year/70K mile power train warranty but curiously, the steel wheels it came with were not covered. IIRC the wheels were only guaranteed to be leak-free for a year or two. Such confidence in their work. Not sure if the problem was build quality or cheap steel rusting through.

60 years later, my Corvair tubeless steel wheels keep holding air just fine.

The only Corvair wheels that required tubes were the real wire wheels. Hard to seal all those spoke holes!

All other Corvair wheels were tubeless. :woo:
