Found it: '62 throttle rod

Post by kmart356 »

The long, shaped throttle rod that connects from transmission pivot to carb cross shaft. (not for turbo)

Somebody has one they don't need, don't you? :dontknow: Looking here first, for sure I'll check with the vendors next week.

EDIT: Found it. thanks to all.

How crusty is acceptable? I'll get a picture later if I find the collection. :rolling:

Early has wide sweep, late has sharper turn. IIRC :vert: :rt66: :wrench:

Phil, Will call Jeff at CA Corvair if Frank doesn't find one so crusty that it falls to pieces :rolling:

Frank, thanks for checking and yes, the EM has that longer drop at the pivot end.

A '60 throttle rod is different. I know that is hard to believe but it is. The carb cross shaft on a '60 is straight across so that would put the rod connection higher. It doesn't go up and over the fan pulley it just stays straight. This might not make the shape of the upper end any different. The other thing that is different is just inside the engine compartment there is a tad welded on that a braided ground strap attaches to I'm guess for radio noise.

Let's see if pictures work.
Early rods

OK, the one on the right matches several more in shape. So I suspect the one on the left is a turbo early. These are not lates, as lates have the first bend from the transmission pivot much closer to the start of the rod.

OK, so I held the camera to make them fit the picture, they were hanging down, so now I have to say the one on top is the non-turbo one.

This one on the right was the better of several, had less wear at the transmission bellcrank end. I was surprised how much wear was on some of them!

I'll need to form a 31" long cardboard box. I doubt the PO will take it with just a tag hanging on tit.
