It's not the rate of speed that matters, it's how scary it is to get it there.

VIN tag should be on the drivers side door jamb.

Tack welded in place...not riveted or screwed!!

I just bought a 1962 Greenbriar van. I found a plate in the driver's door jam that gives a 12 digit number. I found the original California registration, it says it is the engine code. I don't see another plate for the VIN #

IF the plate you saw in the Driver side door jamb looked something like 2R126F100000 it is the V.I.N. for your Greenbrier.
It should be spot welded in place, not screwed on.

Also if you look at the frame rails at the front of the van, you might be able to see the V.I.N. stamped into it.

The V.I.N. should also be stamped of the frame rail up front.

Here is a photo of a 1962 Spyder Convertible VIN Tag from a current e-bay listing.
It is located in the driver's side door jamb.
