Last drive of the year

Post by sparrow »

It's almost 50 degrees here in WI, and I could not resist taking the corvair for the one last drive of the year.
It starts good, runs good, stops good. There are a few things that need tweaking, but nothing major. I'm looking forward to taking it to the car shows next summer. In no way is it a trophy winner but that"s not what i am after anyway. The satisfaction of bringing a car back to life and enjoying it is my reward. Here are a few pics. MERRY CHRISTMAS! and may God Bless you all.

That is a nice looking car.

I used to get carried away with great paint jobs, then it was not fun to drive due to worrying about door dents and paint chips. Now I just get them to looking good instead of perfect and enjoy driving them.

50F in Wisconsin this time of year!! I've been there in the Winter and that is odd.

Enjoy the holidays.

Merry Christmas to you too.
Nice looking Vair.
I’m in Northern Illinois and it’s 50° here too.
We just took the Grand boys for a cruise and they had a blast.
I’m hoping to drive mine until it gets too cold or starts snowing.
God bless and enjoy!!

What is "too cold" for a Corvair?

What the driver says it is.

Biggest limitation is the lubricant. Shop manual says at below -10F use 5W or 5W-20 motor oil. Below 32F manual gear boxes are harder to shift.

You know you live in a place that gets cold in the Winter when the parking meters have outlets for plug in engine block heaters.

A few brave small aircraft pilots that fly in Arctic conditions have been known to drain the motor oil on landing. Then the next day they heat it on a stove and pour it back in the engine!!!

I remember driving my Corvair 35 years ago (rebuild in progress) and scraping the ice on the inside of the windshield with a debit card. That’s cold!

Here in PA, my friend took me for a ride in his beautiful ‘64 coupe today. The last ride of the season.

You did a fantastic job on the coupe Sparrow! It really looks great! I like the black on white color combo. Sharp!

Great idea for a thread...

I did the same on 12/23 to Home Depot
Could not resist the 50% off on Christmas lights

Man can a frunk hold a lot of them.

Put most of them up Christmas Eve to go along with the rest of the Griswold display.

And they are "Light too" so it won't hurt the suspension. :rolling:
