2025 CORSA Convention Dates Confirmed

Post by Phil Dally »

May 19-23 (Mon-Fri) 2025 in Santa Maria, CA at the Radisson (soon to be Marriott) Hotel.

The only facts we have right now are dates and a hotel rate of $119 per night...stay tuned.

Looking forward to the inter-chapter meeting at Fan Belt for volunteer chapters to commit.

Santa Maria is on the coast and late May can be chilly, cloudy, and wet. Not very inviting. Check this years weather -- average high for late May was mid 60's and cloudy every day.

July is warmer and drier, but lets hope it is good weather then. Two years away!

I emailed the local CORSA representative and apparently the folks organizing the 2025 convention chose late May because the motel/hotel rates in the area go up a lot during the warmer summer months. The thinking is folks won't come if the hotel rates are too high. I know Corvair folks are accused of being cheap, but I'd rather go when it is warm and sunny and pay more for a hotel room. Maybe I'm the exception.

I guarantee that is CORSA and not the host club. This is exactly why CORSA didn't want the convention in San Diego. They said the hotels were too expensive so some people wouldn't come.

Here's my :my02:
Corvair prices are climbing and its not exactly cheap to restore, build, maintain and own a Corvair anymore.
I've had people who like cars that don't know what my car is ask if it cost me $50,000 or $100,000 to build, which made me laugh of course. BUT...that tells me the Corvair without its "bad reputation" is even more valuable, respectable and appreciated than what the "older generation" thinks it is.

I just had a guy at Cars N Coffee ask me why my License plates says Safe Enough. They don't know. The Corvair is a cool car and the bad rep (the reason why its cheap) is dying off. There's a shift happening. I see it, when will CORSA see it?
At what point do we decide the marquee is worth it? When can we start to elevate the brand?
I think we are doing us and the car a disservice by being cheap. I realize we aren't rich but do we have to be poor?

All that to say...I support the host club putting on the convention, whatever dates they choose and I will be there to help and in any way I can. :tu:

CORSA and the host hotel have a signed contract...there's no going back now.

Please join us at Fan Belt next month for a 2025 CORSA Convention help wanted meeting.

"At the GWFBT in Palm Springs, Central Coast CORSA will be hosting a meeting at 11AM on Saturday October 21 to solicit help for the 2025 Convention. We invite members from all CORSA chapters to attend. We’ll be asking each Chapter to “adopt” a Convention event that they will organize and staff. We need 40 to 50 people on staff to successfully run the Convention. My Chapter, Central Coast CORSA, has only 8 to 10 members we can count on. So we need all the help we can get from other Chapters. If you’re going to the GWFBT, please attend our meeting. Thanks."

Seems like the last few years the GWFBT got hit by a heat wave in Palm Springs. It should have been in the mid to upper 80's, but the weather channel said it was 107F Friday and 101F on Saturday. I stayed home. There is always talk of moving it to November as in the good ol days, but apparently it's either too expensive or the park isn't available. There are a number of Casino's in the area and maybe move it to their parking lot in November if the park isn't available.
