1965 Monza Convertible...

Post by CuseFan559 »

I recently purchased this '65 Monza convertible. It is unrestored and has 9,800 original miles. I bought it from the daughter of the original owner. Her father bought it for her mother. She drove it for 5 years and put it away. It sat idle until the daughter received the car in 2013. She had it serviced annually and drove it very little. Below are a few photos. Thanks for looking.

:welcome2:  :tu: Welcome to the Corvair Forum, and congratulations on your very rare, lightly used, all original "barn find".
Are Barn Finds real?

Frequently, the barn finds are cars owned by elderly that bought them years ago and now lack the resources to keep them running. In other instances, these are the cars which belonged to someone who passed away and their family has no use for them.
The Positraction differential option is a fairly rare option.

Very nice car!

The can of paint tells me it's either been painted or repaired before. There's no other reason for having a can of Lucite. Just an FYI.

I was told the original owner got it for future touch ups down the road if ever needed. I do not see any evidence of repair or body work anywhere on the car. You probably know better than I do. If there ever was any paint work done on the car it was not with the can I have. It is still full and has never been opened.

Wow, what a time capsule! Hope you really enjoy it!

Don’t be surprised if bearings (alternator, fan, idler pulley, wheel bearings) start making noise as you drive it more. My experience is bearings don’t do well sitting a lot and then being used more frequently.

Thanks, I've been looking for a qualified mechanic in central California to service it before I put it on the road.

Where in Central California?

Mel's Vairmart has been in the San Jose area working on Corvairs for a long time. He may be able to help you. If that location does not suit you, you might check with the San Francisco chapter of CORSA, or with Seth Emerson in San Jose for recommendations.

I'm sorry, I wasn't more specific. I live in the central valley, Fresno area. The place you listed is more coastal. I live inland. CORSA Visalia would be the nearest chapter to me.

:dontknow: I suspected you might be further south and more inland, but it was just a guess. As you mentioned, contacting a local CORSA club chapter may be the best way to locate a qualified Corvair mechanic.

Dave Motohead is in Rosamond, CA, but that is still about 180 miles from Fresno.

Thanks, I'm going to contact the Visalia chapter and inquire. I joined CORSA after I bought the car.

All i can say is WOW! You really have something there if it is that original and untouched. You should take a ton of pics of every part of that car for documentation. Lets see the engine bay and trunk.

This is the only original documentation that I have. I do not have the car on the road yet and it is in storage. I will take photos of the engine bay and trunk the next time I take it out.
