First Corvair - 64 Monza Sedan

Post by carking1996 »

Hi all. I got my first Corvair recently. Drove it almost 250 miles home with a buddy following. It drives very well and I have driven it to work a handful of times this week already. Needs some floor repair. Overall good shape.

Hi everyone. I decided to make a new post with more information. I am looking to buy my first Corvair. Looking for a 60-64 sedan or coupe. I am in OH and willing to drive to MI, PA, IN, KY, WV, and NY. I am looking for a driver that needs work as I'll be personalizing a car to my tastes...

Congratulations on your first Corvair purchase! There were only 21,926 1964 Monza 4-door sedans manufactured, and you will be keeping one of them on the road and looking good after over half a century! Good to hear that this one is a driver, and made the journey to its new home while proving its mettle to be a reliable daily driver, if you wish to drive it regularly! When I purchased my 1966 Corsa convertible via eBay, I took a chance and took a Greyhound bus from Atlanta to Lakeland, Florida to drive it home — 560 miles without a problem! It felt like a great and rewarding ride home. I've had similar reliability with my 1966 Monza 4-door, and have driven it thousands of miles since November 2020 with good results.

You have chosen a nice looking 1964 as your first Corvair. It was a good model year that benefitted from many improvements and refinements over the original 1960 model year you were considering. I think it is sometimes better to begin with a drivable "fixer upper" that you can work on to make improvements while enjoying driving it at the same time. You gain from "positive feedback" and rewarding use of a car you can be proud to own.

Thanks guys! I decided to give it a little wash/wax to see how it would look. Wiped it down with warm water then waxed it with a cleaner wax. What a difference! The paint is excellent minus the rust at the bottom of the doors and tops of fenders. I have driven this thing nearly 500 miles since last weekend and it's been absolutely amazing for reliability. No issues yet! Starts up every time.

I have put nearly 800 miles on it since I bought it a couple weeks ago. It's been a very good car. I need to get carpet after I do the front floors. After that, I'm sure it will be as quiet as a new car! :)
