Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
Given time and continued success in this area, you might be able to run a small business overhauling Corvair steering boxes for owners all over the world!

Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
I know, I know a lack of updates.
Just a little teaser of some things to come soon...
Still waiting on the crossmember to come back from the powdercoater.

Looks GREAT!
I wish you were here! I have a 1966 Monza with a front end that would benefit from such craftsmanship!!

Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
Whew! That was quick.
A good friend of mine helped me assemble and install the crossmember to the chassis.
Factory primer (redish-orange paint) looks great! - I assume that's factory paint.
All new grade 8 hardware used.
Upper control arm bolts, and lower control arm bolts are not torqued to spec yet, as im waiting to load up the suspension.
New front suspension springs from clarks.

Stupendous! I don't know how I missed this thread!! WTG! You're going to develop a "perma-grin" on your first test drive, I suspect.....
Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
Looks great! I am doing my front suspension also, just a few steps behind you!
Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
Excellent work Thomas, that front suspension looks outstanding!

Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
Welp.
Placed a large order at Clarks today for a new brake system. Everything is getting replaced. EVERYTHING.
Once I finish the front brakes, I'll spin the car around remove the engine and rear suspension...
100% rebuilding the entire suspension and brake system.

Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
That's the kind of stuff that causes the endlessly grabby/pulling brake applications.
Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
That probably explains the HARD PULL to the right I had when applying the brakes.flat6_musik wrote: ↑Sun Jan 16, 2022 7:59 pm That's the kind of stuff that causes the endlessly grabby/pulling brake applications.

Re: Duncan's 1963 Monza build
Well,
I didn't pay attention to the brake shoe spring locations, or type of springs for the brake shoe retainers.
I've got: a regular non-tapered spring, and a spring with a coil taper/point to the end.
As for the retainers: Shallow retainer, and deep sitting retainer.
Does this look correct?
