Tires for an Early Corvair
My local Corvair mechanic has told me I need to replace my 12 plus year old tires.
I been looking online for P185/80R13 Maxxis MA-1 90S WW White Wall Tire.
So far I have found them at Amazon for $125.00 and Performance Plus Tire for $109. Both have free shipping.
Will most likely purchase from Performance Plus Tire.
Has anyone seen them out there at other dealers?

I have seen them available recently at Simpletire.com. Pricing was the same as Performance plus you mentioned above.

P185/80R13 Maxxis MA-1 90S . Not sure what the difference is between 90S and the 89S.

Re: Tires for an Early Corvair
They both carry the same S speed rating (rated at 112MPH). The load rating is slightly different. The 90 ones are rated at 1323 LBS and the 89 at only 1279LBs. essentially identical.

Re: Tires for an Early Corvair
I bought a set several months ago from Simpletire for $106 each. Looks like price went up a little. Free shipping, transaction went smooth. Would buy from them again.

Thanks for the explanation of load ratings.
I contacted SimpleTire to see if they would price match and they are not any more.
Performance Plus tire has them for $109 so may end up purchasing there.
Going to wait till Black Friday and see if someone drops price.

I would guess the 90S and 89S is a typo. If it isn't I would ask for date codes because that would clearly be a different run of tires. I can't imagine that they would make both types at the same time.

Re: Tires for an Early Corvair
Who cares? These tires (155/80R 13) are 8% too small in diameter and 16% too narrow. WAY too SMALL. https://tiresize.com/calculator/corvair500 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 12:13 pm Walmart says they have Milestar tires at a price $47.21 each . Has anyone ever tried a set of these ?

The 175/80R 13's mentioned above are only a couple percent on the small side.

Re: Tires for an Early Corvair
I decided to order the P185/80R13 Maxxis MA-1 90S from Performance Plus tire.
I want the right size tire on the car and it seems everyone that has the Maxxis is happy with them.

Re: Tires for an Early Corvair
Had my new tires mounted, balance and installed today.
Cleaned and polished the wire wheels and added spinners from Clarks.
I'm very happy with how they turned out.

Re: Tires for an Early Corvair
The P185/80R13 Maxxis MA-1 is the ONLY automotive tire in that size sold legally in the U.S. that fits the Corvair (there are some specialty tire companies, but the prices are steep). Now that most folks know about date codes Maxxis only produces tires that meet DOT requirements when the demand is there. So sometimes you can't find them or there are few and prices are up. Then a month later a shipment arrives and they are easy to find and prices drop.
The P185/80R13 is also used on other old cars, so it's not just a "Corvair" tire size.
Bottom line ---- after 8 years start looking for new tires so you aren't stuck with little time to find them and you have to pay a premium.
Note: P185/80R13 is a common TRAILER tire size and ARE NOT SAFE on an automobile. Some unethical dealers sell trailer tires to folks to use on automobiles.
