My local Chevrolet dealer gave me a few of these magnets. Figured I put it to use immediately!

Today I have been cutting & bending metal for a few more patches to do under the wagon.

Also will be cleaning the inside floors to do my seam sealing tonight as well!

Seam sealing complete!

Letting this dry then I think I might do duraglass over the top to be sure it is completely sealed.

Anyone think this isn't needed? Maybe just duraglass the bottom for more rigidity?

Spray rustproofing in all the enclosed areas. Good undercoating or sealant underneath. Nothing ever completely stops rust from coming back.

I was planning on get it sprayed as soon as it is road ready again. Local garage does a good job.

I have an 8' stick of pipe with a cap on one end and a water hose fitting on the other. It has a 1' angle iron welded to it to keep it from rolling and a series of small holes drilled along the length of the pipe. When I think I've been exposed to salt I hook it up, turn on the water and slowly drive back and forth over it for a good rinsing.

Alright I will have to make one!

Now comes the question again, is it possible to remove the heater box to clean it out? I ordered & received the heater hose kit with gaskets. Before putting them all together I figured it be smart to clean that section out.

I have the access panel out & see the box. Just not sure how to remove. I will add some pictures below.

I currently do not want to take the powerpack out at the moment. I want to get it out to the Corvair Ranch as soon as it is road ready. 5 hr trip/test

If you have a shop manual for 61 the info is there. In the accessories section. The manual suggested removal of the powerpack for access. That being said it looks like there is enough room to remove it. Get yourself an adjustable mirror to see if you can remove, it's going to be tight if it can be done from above.
This might be of help.

I have both the shop manual & assembly manual. I noticed this page but figured I ask to see if anyone has done it this way.
I will give it a shot & see what happens.
Thanks!

Good news. With the access panel, you are able to take the heater box out long as you separate the box from the rectangular box & the fan. Then pull the fan down & rest it on the suspension parts, pull out the box, then the fan, then the rectangular box.

Quite happy about getting it out plus the amount of dirt & crap was huge!

Wonder if it will be easy or hard when I put the new gaskets in......?????

Also including some pictures of the transmission area. Good time to clean it too!

Kyle,
Im glad you were able to remove the heater assembly. Now I know it can be done as well. It will be very nice when it is cleaned and rebuilt. It's great to have a heat/defrost system that doesn't smell.

Thanks! Yes it is nice to know you can without removing the powerpack. It required a little wiggling but not to much. As for the Corvair's without that access panel...... Removing powerpack seems like the only way.

Does anyone have experience using Kilmat or similar sound deadening? I ordered 2 boxes of 80mil 36sqft to use in both my 64 & 61. Has anyone been able to put any in the doors? My plan for my 64 was to just do the entire floor for now. On the 61, floors, on the roof since the headliner is shot, bottom of access panel, bottom of engine cover.

I used dynamat in my 61 coupe. It was used through out the floor, package area, headliner, and panels in the doors and 1/4 window area. It is a fantastic product. It was easy to work with and the sound deadening is great. I'm sure a similar product would give good results.

Well thanks for the input!

I did my 64 floors, package area & under the rear seat. That was a box of 36sq ft gone. I thought about the doors, but I will do those when I get new panels. It was quite easy to work with & stick. Cutting to fit wasn't to bad! I can recommend it for its ease of installation.

I will find out when going to work here in a few hours how good it is!

I'll probably need two boxes for the wagon.
Would it be good to put underneath the panel for the engine & transmission panel? Says heat to ~212. I know it runs hotter but how hot above the fan could it be?

Thanks as always!

Got the floors 95% painted.

Will be touching up tomorrow & then putting Kilmat down.

Now here's a question, seat belts. The original were chewed up & I had to cut them out, so I'll need new.

I looked through the 61 assembly manual & couldn't find any info in where to drill the holes for the bolts for the belts. My 64 assembly manual has it but they are in different locations. I have the picture but wondered if there was more technical specs.

If not I may wait till after I'm up & running to install them. Haven't decided...

Thanks
