corvair wheel ?

Post by Zorm »

Just picked these up for maybe temporary. They are 15x7, are the correct lug spacing (they fit) and are off a S-10 or Astro, not sure. For folks that have put on factory Chevy alloy wheels, did you need to change anything on the car, as far as wheel studs? This wheel has center caps that are held in place by lug nut covers that screw on the outside of the lugnuts if I'm not mistaken. Any one running anything like this? Again, its temporary until I get the wheel I really want. Need to figure out a good 15" tire that will fit these and the newer wheels in the future, from a list I saw on here or another Corvair forum.

thanks for the thoughts

I have done that before. Correct chamfer lug nuts need to be used to engage the lug seat shape on the wheel. I used some S-10 wheels that used the center cap attachment like these ( Mine wheels were IROC style 5 spokes with S10 centers). I switched all the lug studs front and rear to the correct studs for the S10 wheel and then used the GM lug nuts, center caps and retainers. As I recall the Corvair studs were really too short to well mount the alloys so a little longer was needed as well.

Backspacing is not listed, so you might want to measure. Should be about 4.00" to fit properly, I believe.

terribleted, I was thinking of changing out the studs anyway, did you have to do any drilling?

Bodie, I already put one rim on the car to check fitment, heck I picked these up for only $100. backspacing is just under 4" it looked like as long as I dont go real wide on the tire, everything will fit in the wells. Looks like it might be like you blue convertible wheel fitment in that pic.

Those should fit fine. I saw Michael LeVeque’s car with those wheels (autocross). Tire size I like is 205/60 for the 15”.

Yes had to drill out the lug stud holes to the correct size for the metric studs.
