Which tachometer works in center dash opening 66 Monza?

Post by Chiro972b »

So, I was going to put a sunpro 3 3/8" tach in the center (clock) hole of the dash on the 66 Monza I am buying. I see the sunpro tach mentioned, but it seems to not be available any more. Bosch Sport II 3 3/8 seems to be the closest match, but it is mounted in a pod that looks fairly large. I can't find out if the whole pod is 3 3/8" or if just the gauge is and how easy it is to remove from the pod.

Is there a good choice out there that will fit and take up most of the clock hole diameter without a large bezel still around the tach? One that isn't silly expensive? The bosch is around $40 everywhere. Other brands seem to be $150 and up.

Thanks!

Seth Emerson makes adapter plates for mounting gauges. He may have some suggestions for a tachometer. See https://www.perfvair.com/dash-parts-steering-columns/

Seth posts on the CCF.

I went to that page and only saw things for Corsa dash. Did I miss something? I'm hoping someone has recently done the mod that I first saw on the Texas corvair club showing how to use the clock blank to hold a 3 3/8 sunpro tach in place and it looked like just what I was after, but as I said, sunpro seems to not be around any more.

I'm a big fan of the factory-look tachometer. Both of these are being reproduced. Do they fit? I don't know.....that top one is called the knee-knocker for a '66 chevelle and the 2nd one is for a '70-'72 malibu/el camino/monte carlo.

This one fits. And there's an install tech note in the June 2013 Vaircor newsletter, available on HACOA.org.

Who is reproducing that second one? Looks like a perfect fit for a Monza dash.

Original Parts Group! Tach is on the left there....looks pretty corvair-ish, doesn't it?

One more question. This is going to replace an existing clock in the center. Are the clock numbers on the clock or on the lens? (I don't have the car yet)

Numbers must be on the clock. The lens is clear cone-shaped plastic, and blank on a Monza.

That looks really good flat6.

Wonder if the knee knocker model would fit in an EM?

Face looks right for a Spyder, certainly would have to take it out of the case to fit in the dash. Anyone tried this?

I would find out first if the wiring is compatible with the corvair 6-cylinder. All those impala and chevelles are V8s. I have a feeling it is.....
