65 Corsa Convertible

Post by JackBurton »

Starting to make some progress on the corvair. Pulled out all the engine harness, cleaned up the engine bay, de-flashed the heads, and started installing a new engine seal.

The exhaust was in bad shape so I’ll be replacing that as well.

Yes - I’ve got the carb and turbo being looked at for a rebuild.

Hey! Post a picture or two of your 65 Corsa convertible. I’m getting bored cooped up all the time due to the, Vid-19 environment. It’ll help!

How’s your compression?

My carb and turbo are at the shop being rebuilt. So I’m on standby twiddling my thumbs lol. Once they’re back I’ll snap some more photos.

Made some progress today on the Corvair.

Removed all the silicon gasket from that the PO used to seal the top of the motor. Swapped the engine sheet metal over from the ‘66 version to the ‘65 with the diff dipstick. Installed a new engine bay seal.

Even better found out my carb and turbo are ready.

Thank you.

Carb and turbo came home tonight. Both are from my Corsa. The turbo has a 180HP coldside, 150HP hot side, and a ‘64 style exhaust housing. All media blasted and rebuilt.

Got her running today. Still need to adjust the valves and chase down an exhaust leak but she runs.

Great progress!

I almost bought a beautiful 65 Corsa vert last weekend but it had a 180 engine with unknown internals and that kind of scared me off. Case code indicated a 110 engine and body tag said the car was a 140 originally. Decided to pass so after 45 years of driving Vairs I've still never owned a turbo model.

Thanks it’s been a long road. I have two oil issues - the aftermarket oil pan leaks a little and I have a small drop of oil seeping out of one of the exhaust studs.

This one started as a 140 Corsa but someone added a 180hp engine(casting number)

I can’t wait to add your adjustable fuel pump when it arrives.

Thanks. Let me know if you have questions. I'm still doing a final assembly video for them because I hate doing written instruction pages. Shipping seems to have slowed to a crawl since I sent all those parts to everyone but I hope they arrive soon. Tis' the season I guess.

Most people won't need them if they have followed my build thread on CC. Shipping seems to have slowed to a crawl since I sent all those parts to everyone but I hope they arrive soon. It won’t be a show car more of a weekend fun car. She has some rust I need to tackle along with rebuilding the suspension.
