Re: rear shocks
I never have any luck at local parts houses for anything Corvair. What do I expect from idiots that want to know make and model when I ask for a universal electric fuel pump:( Clark's Corvair Parts has a nice new line of repro shocks with correct factory valving. They seem to work well.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.

Re: rear shocks
Pep Boys told me they could special order some shocks for my late model, but they quoted over $100 per shock, just ridiculous. I just got a full set for my LM for ~$150 shipped from an Ebay seller who sells tons of shocks and has 33K transactions with 98.7% good feedback: https://www.ebay.com/itm/362062243905
I haven't installed mine yet but they look good. No Gabriel markings, no stickers. Shocks are black despite red photos in listing. Numbers stamped on shock:
front 738018 018 110
rear 733691 020 196
And yes, I got the special C109R bushings for the front shocks from Clarks... even though my car never had them previously: https://ssl.corvair.com//user-cgi/search.cgi?part=C109R

Re: rear shocks
The reason for the large shock bushings for anyone that doesn't know is that they are the front suspensions primary bump stops. Without them the suspension can possibly over travel in compression (think really big bump). If the suspension travels far enough the lower control arm can actually smack the bottom of the crossmember.erco wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 7:08 pm Pep Boys told me they could special order some shocks for my late model, but they quoted over $100 per shock, just ridiculous. Re: rear shocks
From what I understand the Duke's "General Lee" was originally a Corvair, but that limited travel front end kept it from being a great jumping and landing car.terribleted wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 8:00 pm If the suspension travels far enough the lower control arm can actually smack the bottom of the crossmember.

Re: rear shocks
The car they used was terrible at landing. Look at some pictures of landings. The car was destroyed every time.
From IMDB: "Somewhere between 256 and 321 "General Lee" cars were created and mostly destroyed during the series."

Yes, one car per jump, two jumps each show. You can see fenders crumple every landing. John Schneider says 280 cars at 14:30 at https://youtu.be/QatKRHFxEoE?t=870
