Notice NO 140hp or 180HP turbo option and no Corsa. The Corvair books say Chevrolet was concerned the new Camaro would not sell as well as the Mustang and they felt the Corvair might take sales away from the Camaro. So the Corsa was cancelled as was the 140HP and 180HP engines for the 1967 model year.

The 140HP was re-introduced during 1967, some say it was because of the "Stinger" COPO order that GM had committed to in 1966. Maybe it was to use up parts. Anyway --- the new Camaro was selling well so any Corvair sales were no longer an issue.

All indications at GM suggested the 1967 Corvair model year would be the LAST. Instead the Corvair was kept in production through the 1969 model year and the stories around that decision are indeed interesting.

There's no arguing that from a historical standpoint, HOT ROD's favorite muscle car is the first-generation Camaro. The old joke around the water cooler was that if you wanted a bump in newsstand numbers, all you had to do was stuff a red '69 into the photo studio and drape a hot blonde over the hood. From the malaise era of the mid-'70s through the 1990s, there was nothing wrong with a car magazine that couldn't be cured by that single remedy.

That made a lot of readers into Chevy believers, and to this day the 1967 to 1969 Chevrolet Camaro remains arguably the most sought-after hot rod on the planet—with the cost of entry to match that popularity.

Nice. I picked up a '66 brochure on ebay a while back. Thought it would be cool to own along with my '66 Monza!
