Leaf spring

I bought a 1964 rear section for my trike. It has a leaf spring going side to side. What holds it in place on the trans?

1964 Corvair Transverse Leaf Spring (Suspension component attaches to the differential in the center)


The 1964 Corvair differential housing is the only one that has the required mounting points.

The leaf spring and differential that has the mounting bosses was 64 only

Can the differential be welded to?

Not in the car. Cast iron isn't much fun to weld. Why?

You could simply choose to omit the leaf spring, if your differential housing is not a 1964 with the necessary mounting pad. It is hard to know just what suspension configuration will work best on a custom trike installation. The 1964 coil springs were redesigned to match the extra spring rate offered by the transverse leaf spring. Earlier 1961-1963 coil springs could be tried, but the existing coil spring rate alone may be OK with your trike.

Brad is correct on the spring rate and I wouldn't think you would want the transverse leaf on a trike. It reduces roll stiffness in the rear to make the front roll stiffness a higher percentage. Since the trike has no front roll stiffness the design would be bad from what I understand.
