PICASSO RAMPSIDE STAKE POCKETS
PICASSO RAMPSIDE STAKE POCKETS
The bed rail stake pockets were “restored” on my ‘62 Rampside. They now have a certain “Picasso” look to them. Each pocket has its own dimensions. They’re not parallel either.
I’ve seen that stake metal is available for other pickups. Does anyone know if there’s a Chevy pickup model that’s compatible?
How do you get all the stake holes, at the top of the bed rails, to have the same dimensions? Maybe there’s a compatible donor pickup panel?
I’m trying to find the easiest most economical way to fix this without having to fabricate each pocket.
THANKS

ALOHA
Thanks but that’s a photo of the air intake louvers.
I’m talking about the rectangular holes on top of the bed rails. The holes you’d put a tie down anchor in.
You could also put a piece of wood sticking out of the hole about 2ft. It would be a sort of fence post. I’d like to make a panel attached to that. It’d be used to support surf boards.
With those graphics on the side, I’m surprised you haven’t made a board rack. Colors of you Ramp looks great and it’s not even outside.

Re: PICASSO RAMPSIDE STAKE POCKETS
These stake pockets are built with body filler at the top. If you were to grind out this filler they may or may not be damaged so that they are misshaped? I have not found this area to be particularly bad for damage or rust. The dimensions of the top, I think, are similar to other pickups of the time. If they sell little squares for other GM trucks they might work fine for replacement.
Corvair guy since 1982. I have personally restored at least 20 Vairs, many of them restored ground up.

Ok the pockets on the rampside are the same dimensions as any Ford ranger box hole except the ramp seemed to be tapered. So the plastic cap just snaps in . Nice and clean.

Hi Joe, your pockets seem bigger than mine, even pre restoration. My Rampside is a ‘62. Maybe they’ve changed over the years?

Is there a particular year or model that the Ranger bed rail fits better? How did you find that out?
