Is the corsa speedometer the same diameter as a non-corsa speedometer. Thanks Larry

Re: Corsa Speedometer
Not even close. They are totally different animals. the Monza speedo itself is small diameter like maybe 3" ( I do not have one out of a cluster to measure) and mounts into a metal housing on the back of the cluster that also mounts the other gauges. This wide housing then mounts to the back of the cluster face. The Corsa speedo is 4.5" in diameter and mounts directly to the back of the cluster face. Why do you ask?

Re: Corsa Speedometer
Assuming you have some Corsa speedometer problems...
The odometer drive often wears out in these aging mechanical speedometers, and serviceable original replacements are somewhat rare. If you have ruled out the speedometer cable as the source of your trouble, you may find that Corsa speedometer repair is somewhat difficult — as some internal components seem to be made of unobtainium. I have attached a copy of a CORSA magazine article on this subject for your information...

The Corsa and Monza instrument panels can develop problems with the electric instruments and/or illumination lights. The panels are plastic, so a metal conductive grounding strap links the electric gauges together and then ties them to chassis ground at a single point. If the single screw that attaches that grounding strap to the metal dashboard becomes loose or corroded, the electrical ground to the instrument panel components may be lost and this can disrupt the operation of the electric gauges and illumination lights.

Re: Corsa Speedometer
The odometer on my corsa is not working and I thought i could replace it with a monza speedometer. Either that or take the parts from a good monza speedometer and fix my corsa. I didn't want to spend $200.00 to get my repaired but I may have to. Still looking at options. I need to check to see if the inter parts are the same. Thanks for the help. Larry
Re: Corsa Speedometer
Years ago I fixed up a few Corsa speedometers for my car and a buddies cars. The Monza speedometer parts won't work, at least not most of them. I have used modified low mileage Monza speedometer frames with a good main gear combined with new Corsa odometer intermediate drive gear. (Clark's used to sell them). This requires a modification to the Monza speedometer frame to use with the Corsa parts. Also --- anytime you have the speedometer apart you have to magnetically calibrate it. I was lucky and found an old shop who calibrated mine after I fixed them. Basically this is a job for an expert!!!lalkie01 wrote: ↑Tue Jun 30, 2020 12:45 pm The odometer on my corsa is not working and I thought i could replace it with a monza speedometer. The Corsa speedometer had a trip odometer so a METAL drive intermediate gear was required. Only problem is once the gear lube dries out the main and intermediate gears wear fast and bind causing the input shaft bearings to wear. First the odometers quit, then the you get noise and an oscillating speedometer needle.
Frankly I wouldn't do one for as little as $200.00. That's a good price if it comes with a warranty.
