1962 spyder timing problems

1962 spyder timing problems

I have a 1962 spyder convertible and I have dwell @32 new plugs, wires ,cap ,points and it pings when hard shifts and in 4th gear and timeing is only @16 degrees with factory boost retarder in working order.

What fuel are you using? Are the oil cooler and heads clean?

16 degrees where, at idle? Check the manual, static timing is much higher.

Running 93 octane and yes idle timing set and should be 24 but pings when that high

Too lean? Air leak?
