From Colorado Again
From Colorado Again
I posted a few months ago (62 Wagon on Craigslist). I didn't buy that one. I'm looking at a '66 Monza Convertible 110. Price is right but other than being a convertible its nothing special. It' s a plain Jane 110 4 speed. I also have a '70 Camaro SS and have worked on a couple of Chevelles, El Caminos ect. So in my garage there is a set of mid 70's Z28 wheels 15x7 I think. The thought crossed my mind that a "Z66" Corvair Convertible might be kinda fun. Five spoke Z28 wheels, SS stripes it probably wouldn't be the first time somebody put all three car designs together. What do people think of the idea? Has anybody put 15" rally wheels on a LM Corvair? Please post pictures if you have them.
Re: From Colorado Again
Yes, it has been done. I had Iroq Z wheels on my 65' Convertible 15 inch wheels. Looks good. I currently have 17" x 9" on rear and 17" x 8" front. Of course you have to think about the tire size to make it fit. I have 245 -40 on rear and 205-40's on front.
Re: From Colorado Again
Don't forget to measure your offset. Measure from the front of the spindle to the inside edge of the fender. On your wheels, measure from the back side of the mounting surface to the outside (front) edge of your rim. This will give you your offset of your wheels. Take into consideration the tire size as they push out further than the rim. The rear spring is also a factor on the inside, as well as the stabilizing rod. Too wide of a tire and it will rub. the wheels will camber inward as the suspension compresses. I am running zero offset. You probably already know all of this, but I thought it would be prudent to mention.

A Z66 Corvair would be COOL!
SVLVAIR, I noticed your Rims & Tires earlier. I've been talking to Scott about my LM Corvair and he has mentioned your set up. Did you have to roll your fender? Can you post or send me some close up pictures? Did you need to have a 5" backspace?

Re: From Colorado Again
Sounds like a great idea. The 66 has the stronger 4 speed and larger yoke bolts if you find the need to up the power a little as well. I always thought the Camaro wheels looked great on the LM corvair.

Re: From Colorado Again
Vair-8, no i did not have to roll the fender. Its been a while so I would have to look at my backspace again. As for pictures, I can take some this weekend while I am working on my car. I have the engine and trans out and rebuilding the rear end. The wheels are grossly cambered due to moving the car by hand with no transmission (Strut rod). I will take some pics of the areas that come close to the wheels. Maybe it will help.
