Corvair Vert Stiffening

[img]I have asked a couple of questions about this before and I am still searching for a solution

1st idea -- I have been kicking around involves carbon fiber square tubing - expensive - but very light and seems to fit some of the shapes along the side rails.

2nd idea -- see attached this looks like a pretty neat piece of engineering from No Limits engineering - not specific to the Corvair but for GM side rails so I suspect pretty close. I first saw on an auto hot rodding show and the video looked like it installed pretty nice. I have not yet checked the dimensions of the 67/69 Camaro side rails vs the corvair. Seems very well engineered!

I'm not very knowledgeable on BB's so not sure about the link - sorry

Any thoughts from folks who have done or looked into any of these options.

Murph, it looks like an interesting bolt on option. There have been people who have stiffened their verts in different ways but they have welded the either angle or tube in. I don't have an expert solution as to searching the previous posts but there are some you might want to look into. As far as others responding to your post(s), it sometimes comes in spurts. It may be vacations, holidays, or those in warmer weather enjoying their cars at this time while the rest of us spending more time working on our cars.

Thanks -- I have looked at many of the other welded in ideas some OK some pretty heavy -- not that it makes any real difference for a street car but I ALWAYS try to hard to design light and strong. If the carbon fiber stuff will work/fit it is amazingly stiff and very light. But this looks like a pretty neat bolt in and the Shipping weight is about 25 lbs so not very heavy. And as the designer says it also cleans up the sight line under the car. Lots of time for responses I haven't even got the car in the garage for the winter yet.

Don't forget - If your Corvair is a late-series convertible, (1965-1969), it should have the damper jugs installed at all four corners of the car. They don't stiffen the structure, but they were intended to suppress body flexing somewhat. Over the years, lots of owners removed them, thinking they were just useless weight.

I have the dampeners - this is mostly self inflicked concern - car seems ok but if the one time I put 4 people in it the doors didnt latch the same, and the rockers have been replaced - how well I'm not sure yet and it was a Michigan car. So this is mostly unnecessary worry and my pension normal over engineering.
Mostly at this point curious and looking for folks who might have tried one of these approaches.
