Just received an OPG Corvair parts catalog Hmmm
In the mail today I received the new OPG Corvair parts catalog, so I sat down at lunch with it and the Clark's catalog side by side. Wow the OPG catalog is flashy. Shiny pages, a billion photos and very little depth. Ok you can buy this widget but you can not see nor purchase that clip you need to go with it to make it function. They have a lot of items listed which are mostly interior and accessories. They do have a limited list of suspension parts and a fairly complete offering of brake parts but offer very little for engine or fuel systems. Most of what they have listed I would call the easy stuff, and the common stuff (shared between Corvair and other GM cars).....the stuff you can find with some digging to outsource a specialty supplier like Clarks, California Corvair, Corvair Ranch etc. If they were the primary supplier we would have pretty cars that would be difficult to keep operating. I cross checked about 10 different parts for pricing. Late model molded carpet set, late model door panels, some brake parts, some suspension pieces, and a few other odds and ends. In nearly 100% of the cases the OPG price was higher, and sometimes significantly higher (like 75+% on one part I checked). The only ones that were lower were a couple sale items.
I will keep OPG's Catalog and look at it some more I suppose. From what I have seen thus far they will not garner much of my business, but, I have an open mind. Impress me OPG!

Just received an OPG Corvair parts catalog Hmmm
I posted about this 4 days ago and no one commented.
This is all to be expected. We all knew that they wouldn’t have much we already couldn’t get. OPGI has been getting into parts for less popular GM models and the Corvair fits that bill.
I have been fairly optimistic and really got tired of everyone talking crap about OPGI coming out with a Corvair Catalog. We knew that they aren’t going to take business away from the vendors we already have. I hate to say this, but in the future, we are going to lose long time Vendors and places like OPGI are going to be the only places that will have parts for our cars, because they cater to more than one type of vehicle. It’s the sad inevitable truth.
Hopefully they will get more stuff and and things will get cheaper over time. They do have some things that I haven’t seen anywhere else, but there’s not much.

I don’t think it’s going to be much more than that for most of us.

I grew up on Corvair’s and still have a few. I’m still a Corvair guy at heart but I have several other cars. The one thing I’ve learned is how spoiled we are with Corvair’s. The Clarks catalog is awesome and parts are relatively cheap compared to other cars. Not to mention they have virtually every part and clip and Grommet etc. I would never consider using OPGI unless they had something Clarks did not. I will continue to support them.

I’m a Clark’s fan as well however after looking over my OPGI catalog with a fresh set of eyes I got to give them credit they are making an effort. Really surprised to see the exhaust manifolds as new items.
Better then losing vendors like some models face these days.
I got nothing to base this on but when an organization the scale of OPGI gets involved in Corvairs I see it as a sign the cars popularity is rising and there’s hope for the marque to survive.

This right here. This is the mentality we all need to be in. I too was surprised to see some items in there I haven’t seen anywhere else and things are expensive, but it’s getting to the point that classic cars are all getting expensive to repair and own.MtnVairMike wrote:I’m a Clark’s fan as well however after looking over my OPGI catalog with a fresh set of eyes I got to give them credit they are making an effort.
