im trying to get my corvair registered here in japan and i keep running into problems.
i need an "official looking" print out that explains this tag number,
4R126 S 108776
first they told me they needed proof of the year of the car based on the serial number so i did some looking around the forum and found this http://www.wileenet.com/Corvair/vin_calc.htm i showed it to them and expained to them that the 4 means 1964 but they pointed out that the example shown is different from my number and there is nothing explaining the R or the S.
now they want a complete break down of the number.
if someone could post a link to something "official looking" that i can print out and show them it would sure make my day.

Have you looked at this and tried showing them this?

http://home.comcast.net/~mkellstrand/co ... etail.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If not PM us your email and we've scanned in what's in the official Chevrolet Corvair Service Manual and can send it, but you can't attach PDFs here.

Your car is a 1964 Greenbrier van.
It was the 8776th Corvair built at St. Louis that year.

The 1964 Corvair Shop Manual also helps with breaking it down (page image shown below and attached as Adobe Reader (.pdf) file).

had a similar experience with an out of state vair brought to my neck of the woods....I ended up donating a shop manual to the kind & educated fellows at the local-yocal DMV - it may help the next fellow in line ::-):
