Did You See It? Did You See it? Pawn Stars....

Post by new mexico vair »

to start with those guys on that show aren't exactly my type but some girl comes in with a pretty strait and fairly original 60 (orange or red) and asks $10K. They clam its not worth it and offer her $3K. It had a tranny leak and "jumps out of gear" according to her. They didn't like that aspect and claimed it had sloppy steering. the girl stuck to her guns and no deal was struck. i am proud of her.

Pretty fair overall...the usual Nader stuff.

Seems Rick might be a Corvair nut.

Corey is and always will be a punk.

Why didn't they bring Danny in?

Unfortunately Corvairs are great cars, but mostly only to us, with Pawn Stars being a business, and looking for conerstone(100%) or better profits, and a quick turnaround, they would need to price it at 8k to sell it. Storing it and having a mechanic look at it will cost 1k, so I think 3 k is a reasonable offer. I really don't think Nader was involved in the decision, used in negotiation yes, but not in the decision. LOL and Corey play off his father very well for making the store money.

I still think the "experts" they bring in to value are getting kick backs.

The "experts" low ball to excess every time...insulting low ball.

The toy guy last night was a perfect example.

Those tin toys were worth WAY more than $2500.

He said the mice playing piano was worth a grand by itself.

I think once the item they under value is sold they get a piece.

The only "expert" with any credibility is the museum director guy.

My Wife and I watch because we are dealers and dig all the stuff.

We had this discussion........ alot! Phil great minds think alike. I to am in the trade. Pawn Stars have a store but that is where it ends. They are Hollywood. My gal and I are in agreement that they are playing on some "bad ass" attitude thing that seems to sell these days. They have to be because first off the "experts" they have on the show are getting the kickback just by having face time on a national TV show. Second if they weren't playing into the jerk-Hollywood thing they would buy just about every darn piece that comes into there store just to attract foot traffic to such a large selection of oddities and collectables and hence forth more money....don't you think. i mean why can't they be cool like the American Picker guys who seem to be on some charity scavenger hunt.

And as far as $3k being a fair price they could flip for $5k spend the thousand on the mech. and price it at $9k and probably get it because it was on their show and is in their store. I personally wouldn't pay it but I think we may be underestimating the power of that box in our living room. i don't like the lowballing and the smug big-shot attitude of all of them on the show and quite frankly it can't help us in the "biz"'s reputation.

Indeed in the pick & flip world a good guy attitude works much better.

American Pickers is much better because of the gratitude they express.

I agree with everybody here except up here in oregon I can't sell my 62 coupe which is way nicer than the girls '60. I am only asking 4900.00 half of the 10k she asked.
I rick offered her 3K and knows he has to put a couple into it does that mean He thinks He can get 10K for it when it is done? That would be amazing to me. I have not seen an early coupe go for that much in a long time. The prices on this show seem out of touch.

crazy; Well they are out of touch...good way of describing it. But he offered 3K, he may have gone up to $4,500 but not likely. they were just to far apart so the negotiations stoped- remember?- so he would have gone higher. I'm sure of it. And keep in mind the name of the game is to make a profit so if he buys it for $4k puts a thousand or so in it he can realistically ask 8 or 9k and make a couple grand. Who wouldn't be happy with that investment? And I don't think you are out of line with your asking price. You probably just haven't found the right buyer yet...

It's a TV show guys, not a documentary. Worse yet it's a "reality show". They manipulate the situations to get more viewers and thus more ad money.
